A short Ruby Dixon romance is exactly what I needed to sweeten the start of my week!

Super sweet!Loved the friends to lovers, and the slow burn between Ashley and Khex! It was nice to see the build of their friendship overtime and not just an insta-love。 Their love for each other was fully believable, which I think is something a lot of novellas struggle with due to the shortness。 Always love a Ruby book!

Khex (Cacks 🤣🤣) and Ashley, loved them together! This was a great novella that had a full story!! Gotta love that custodian training that tells them all to stay far away 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Good thing Lucy and Rektar had their backs lol!

Ruby never disappoints!Short and sweet but i loved the representation as always。 I really felt seen by this one as a hard of hearing girl from Houston。

So Sweet! This novella was so sweet! It's like a slow burn where they are not trying to climb eachother when they first meet。 They get to know one another and fall in love over weeks and months。 Seriously, it was a quick slow burn and I didn't even know that existed。 Ruby strikes again with her magic! I love Risdaverse <3Anything Ruby Dixon writes is an insta-buy for me and I’m never disappointed。 This alien friends-to-lovers short was no exception

I loved this sweet novella。 Ashley just broke my heart knowing how much holding her secret so close kept her isolated and alone。 Until Khex, he was so kind once knowing her secret。 The author’s note was so powerful and added so much gravitas to the story。 Well done。 Highly recommended。

I was looking at goodreads to see when a new Risdaverse book was coming out (I keep checking up on this series because it is my absolute favourite!), and lo-and-behold - the book got released today! Wild。 Guess it says something about how much I come back to check if a new Risdaverse book is out soon。 Honestly - every book in this series has been incredibly moving and emotional, but also super hot!!! Not that we have to compare Dixon’s series, but…。。 it’s by far my favourite series of hers, haha I was looking at goodreads to see when a new Risdaverse book was coming out (I keep checking up on this series because it is my absolute favourite!), and lo-and-behold - the book got released today! Wild。 Guess it says something about how much I come back to check if a new Risdaverse book is out soon。 Honestly - every book in this series has been incredibly moving and emotional, but also super hot!!! Not that we have to compare Dixon’s series, but…。。 it’s by far my favourite series of hers, haha。 I do really love how having a set-up like this, allows for such a great mix of stories。 Everyone arrives having been through a different journey to get here。 They are also in a generally safe place, which means there is such a great variety of different types of stories。 Some are quite dark and deal with really difficult emotions, whereas others are petty light and fun。 Annnnyway。 This was so good。 At first I was a bit unsure about Khex ‘blackmailing’ Ashley into a date, I was wishing he’d make sure she realised it was a friend date, because it felt a bit weird that he knew she assumed he wanted sex and yet still worded his blackmail as being a date。 I quickly got over that though, as the whole story was such a lovely friends to lovers journey, and his vibe for the rest of the book was extremely respectful and considerate。 Now - onto my main feeling when I finished this book。 It is such a great representation of having a disability!!! The way she refers to it as her ‘flaw’ even at the end, struck me as being so upsetting that she still considers her hearing loss that way, even when we get to the end of the book - but then I was like, ‘hang on - that’s exactly how I think about my own disabilities in my head, even though I know I shouldn’t’。 And so, even though I was kind of put off by the wording, then I actually appreciated it so much more because it felt so real。 I’ve legitimately been paranoid about having public records of my illnesses / disabilities because of ‘what if climate change gets really bad and a fascist type of regime takes over and my records are out there, making me an easy target’。 This sounds so crazy to write out。 But honestly, these are the sorts of things you think of when you have major health difficulties。 This is a part of the world’s history of how people with disabilities have been treated。 When you are vulnerable, even if things are generally okay, you are always aware of how at risk you could become。 In part because of daily management; you have to be aware of the risks。 Everyday, I pretend my eyesight is much better than it is - there are soooo many tricks that become second nature。 It’s a combination of knowing that you are doing things that others might find weird, and trying to do them subtlety to hide it, and also having things that are so engrained and normal behaviour that you forget you do it until someone might point it out。 What Ruby was writing about Covid making her more aware of this stuff (in the authors’s note), I related to in a big way。 Not about the mask stuff necessarily - that’s not an issue for my needs。 But, I think, during Covid, a lot of people with disabilities had to contend with how vulnerable we really are, and how dispensable we were considered to be。 The stuff Ashley thinks about makes so much sense considering that her life was previously at risk for being disabled (not just a fear, a real threat), but, even in a society with public healthcare, I still worry about many of the same things she does。 Some of these worries might be ‘unrealistic’, and are worries that I know are silly, but they are they are there, and this book did such a great job of exploring that。 At the end, Ruby has an author’s note taking about her own hearing impairments, and I realised。 Woah - that’s why this felt so well written。 That’s why the language choices that would normally feel a bit icky, felt so genuine and truthful。 For many years, I didn’t really consider myself as having a disability。 I have type 1 diabetes, am no longer allowed to drive due to my eyesight, chronic fatigue, and ptsd (so I guess you could say, that I’ve got some shit going on with my daily life, haha)。 I’m not an older person, I am in my 20s - I know ageism probably makes older people want to hide their disabilities too - but certainly as a young person, the need to hide, and pretend things are okay is massive。 In my personal experience, anyway。 But, I know that it would not only be me who feels that。 I just, really loved this book, and how it gets all of these things, and often in the details。 Not everything felt super explicit, or like the book was trying to be a book about ‘disability’。 It had points that it made, but it really didn’t bang on about it, it was just including things that would naturally come up in daily life for Ashley。 For me, that’s the most powerful way to tell inclusive stories。 So thanks again Ruby, for another fabulous book, with a complicated and wonderful woman。 。。。more

cute and sweetThis is part of a series but it can be read as a stand alone。 For the most enjoyment, I suggest reading the books in order。 I enjoyed learning more about the alien and human interactions on Risda。 At first Ashley was off putting with her attitude but I appreciated how authentic she was。 It made sense with her situation。 Khex was as friendly and affable until it came to Ashley then he was annoyed。 But as he started to get to know her, things changed。 I appreciated the friends to lov cute and sweetThis is part of a series but it can be read as a stand alone。 For the most enjoyment, I suggest reading the books in order。 I enjoyed learning more about the alien and human interactions on Risda。 At first Ashley was off putting with her attitude but I appreciated how authentic she was。 It made sense with her situation。 Khex was as friendly and affable until it came to Ashley then he was annoyed。 But as he started to get to know her, things changed。 I appreciated the friends to lovers aspect of this book。 It makes sense in the world but I would have like a little more time when the couple was a couple。 Whenever the main characters don’t get together until basically the last chapter, I feel a little let down。 I did really enjoy the story and I look forward to more set in Risda! 。。。more

Loved it!! I'd been waiting for this story for some time and I absolutely adored it! I have always been intrigued Khex and was not disappointed。 Ash was wonderful。 I loved her character。 Not at all over done or annoying like a few characters I've ran across。 I would say more but I don't want to ruin it ❤。 You'll love it! Absolutely fantastic。Before I talk about the main contents of the book, I need to say that everyone should read the author note at the end of the story。 Just do it。With that noted - this is a novella, but we truly got a full story。 Ashley and Khex have a great dynamic from the start and the reason behind requesting his aid is both heartbreaking and lovely。 (I'm working really hard to avoid all spoilers!)The adaptations that Ashley has found felt realistic and not over- or under-played。 As Khex f Absolutely fantastic。Before I talk about the main contents of the book, I need to say that everyone should read the author note at the end of the story。 Just do it。With that noted - this is a novella, but we truly got a full story。 Ashley and Khex have a great dynamic from the start and the reason behind requesting his aid is both heartbreaking and lovely。 (I'm working really hard to avoid all spoilers!)The adaptations that Ashley has found felt realistic and not over- or under-played。 As Khex figured out what Ashley has been hiding from everyone, his patience and support are wonderful。 And to be clear - Khex gives support in finding ways to get supportive, not by making decisions for Ashley。 His support comes from observation, adjustment, and understanding。Another fantastic read - I love the depth that Ruby weaves into her stories。。。there's always growth and I always love a happy ever after🖤 。。。more
